With modern tools like the Apple Pencil and apps like the Procreate app, the iPad is an amazing tool for anyone that's interested in trying digital hand lettering. The flexibility of the iPad lets you create your own font, art or digital lettering work that's only limited by your imagination.

If you want to learn digital calligraphy, these courses present the perfect way to get started.

How long do I get access to the course?

Once you enroll, you get lifetime access to all the materials included in your course. This includes all the downloadable materials as well as the videos.

Do I need any special tools for digital calligraphy?

Unlike pen and paper calligraphy, digital art doesn't require any specialized tools such as a pointed pen or brush pen. In order to get the most from these courses, you only need three things; an iPad or an iPad Pro that is capable of running Procreate, the Procreate app and an Apple Pencil.

Getting your pencil to sync with the iPad is essential so make sure that your iPad is up to the task. The newer models sync automatically but it's not the same for some of the older models. Please check our guide before you buy.

Can I use a generic Apple pencil?

While you can use a generic stylus for most things, make sure your writing tool comes with pressure sensitivity. Calligraphy relies on a contrast between thin upstrokes and thick downstrokes. In order to create the different brush strokes, you need a pressure-sensitive pencil in order to draw the different strokes.

Do I need the Procreate app for this course?

Our courses exclusively use the Procreate App as we believe that it is the best app for digital calligraphy. But it's not the only calligraphy app! If you're looking for an alternative, consider one of the following other apps:

  • Calligraphy penmanship

  • Adobe Fresco

  • Affinity Designer

  • GoodNotes

While any of these can be used for lettering, you will get the most from our courses with Procreate.
